Data Storage Limits Exceeded Error when upgrading, even though I have 20GB of data available

Hi, we tried doing an upgrade from 11.2.8 to the latest version last night but got a bunch of errors that look like this:

1. (IconsSVGv2) Data Storage Limits Exceeded```
Your company currently has exceeded its data storage limits including an extra overflow buffer. Per our terms and conditions, we cannot permit additional data creation within our system until your company first reduces its current data storage. Please contact your company's salesforce.com administrator to resolve this. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. ```
We got the error for SkuidPages, SkuidThemeInkComposerDark, and a bunch of others.

We have plenty of available data space (20GB), and plenty of file storage space as well (15GB), so I can't understand why we would get this error.

Does anyone know how I can get through this?

Thanks.

Hi Evan,

So, this is error message is really unhelpful, the root limit that’s actually causing the problem is a different limit that is enforced by Salesforce, which is that your organization can have a maximum of 250 MB of Static Resources — and that includes Managed Packages. So if you have, say, 30 MB of your company’s own Static Resources in your org, and then you have 5 managed packages that each have 50 MB of Static Resources, you’ll have 280 MB total, so you’ll be over the limit.

Here is the documentation for the limit:

https://help.salesforce.com/articleView?id=pages_static_resources_create.htm&type=5
https://help.salesforce.com/articleView?id=000247646&language=en_US&type=1

Fortunately, there are some things that you can do about this:

  1. Vote for the limit to be increased (or at least to not apply to managed packages!) so that others don’t have this problem as well!

  1. Submit a Case to / call your Salesforce Account Executive and nudge / cajole / urge / request / demand that they increase the limit for you in your org. I have seen various posts by other customers that this has worked for them, so you can use that in your request, it’s a common request as far as i can tell.

  2. Look for Static Resources that you no longer need. If you find any, remove them. Maybe you can get below 250 MB without calling your rep…

Hey Zach, thanks for the response! Agree that it’s an unfortunate error message. I’ll take a pass at your suggestions and let you know where we end up.

Thanks.

Hey Zach, just wanted to thank you for the advice - I removed a few larger unused Static Resources and the upgrade went through.

Thanks!
